After fleeing from Nazi Germany, Josef and Helen Schwarz arrive in Portugal's capital in 1942, where a ship to America awaits them. But on the evening before the ship departs, Helen dies in the hotel. She had concealed the cancer from her husband so as not to burden their last days together. Deeply affected and disillusioned, Josef is drawn to the port of Lisbon. There he meets a penniless exile to whom he is willing to give the ship's tickets and visas, which have now become worthless to him, if he accompanies him that night and listens to his story.

After the success of the first film "Die Informantin", which delighted over 5.5 million viewers, the story of the undercover law student Aylin is now being told. She actually doesn't want anything to do with the LKA. But she has no choice. In "Der Fall Lissabon" she has to spy on a star lawyer who launders money for terrorist cells. Should she refuse, the life of her sister and that of her niece is threatened. Crime scene inspector Aylin Tezel embodies a brave young woman who gets caught between the fronts and can only rely on her instinct.

Two years after consorting with the wrong people cost him his job as public prosecutor, Eduardo Silva is a measly defense attorney, who works from his hotel room. Loosing a bit from her fellow-angler uncle, he gives a shot as unpaid apprentice to freshly-graduated gypsy Marcia Amaya, whom nobody would consider hiring so far, but is soon offered crossing to the office of Silva's successor as prosecutor. Their first client is common-as-muck Joana Soares, accused of murdering her beached-up husband after a public fight, without an alibi, claiming a blackout. Eduardo is countered while working out, with help from Marcia's and Joana's families, how the affair actually relates to illegal trade in medicine, with twists including the involvement of a crime lord.
